Corporal Punishment

Do you think corporal punishment is ok with children? Do you think "spanking" should be allowed/not allowed?

(If you don't know, corporal punishment includes locking children in isolation; can be extreme or not, hitting, etc.)

In Canada, parents are allowed to spank their children, do you consider this child abuse?

you can spank here too but what the cops say is dont leave a mark.

and why is the point in hitting your kid, thats like when you tell your kid not to hit so then you go and wack them over the bobba... that doesn't make sense at all. There are studies out there that spanking lowers IQ and gives problems with doing "it" later in life.

Yeah, I think there are other ways of dealing with a child's inappropriate behaviour. Hitting them won't help. :s

well i got spanked when I was young and I grew up fine. Some kids will only listen when pain is involved (Not talking bout punching kids in the face)

spanking isn't child abuse.

beating a child with a fist is child abuse.

there's a difference there people.

here's how i see it.

most kids from way back then were respectful of their parents and followed directions very well.

why? because they were spanked and disciplined.

now you know why today's society is like it is.

I am going into teaching I have heard all sides of this. And I know what my side in the classroom is and what my side in the home will be.

But spanking from someone that is like, double the child's size, and definitely has more strength than the child, wouldn't that be considered child abuse?
