This is weird, i'm actually writing a paper on The ring of Gyges for my Philosophy class right now. It's actually "Gyges" by the way. Anyways, the moral of the story is that without consequence everyone will do the morally incorrect action. Hence the invisibility ring stripping Gyges of all possible punishments for his actions and this is to represent everyone. I can't say I completely agree with this theory though.
No, that's basically true. The question that needs to be put to the theory is whether humanity cares enough to pay attention to the consequences that will happen. I actually have the answer. Yes, no, no, no, yes, no, no, yes, no, yes, yes, yes, no, no, no, and the no's go on for some time ending with a yes.
So there's Gyge, the sheepherder. A lamb runs into a cave, and Gyge follows in after it. He ends up in a tomb, and on the finger of this guy is a ring. Gyge freaks out, takes the ring and the lamb and runs like hell. After messing around with the ring, Gyge discovers that by turning it one way on his finger, he becomes invisible from everyone INCLUDING God. By turning it back, people can see him again. Gyge kills the King, seduces the Queen, and takes over the kingdom.
What would you do with this ring?
According to Plato, if you're sitting here imagining what you'd do with it, congratulations, you know yourself. If i could hide from god, it would prolly mean i could hide from death and just run ***** forever
Oh, you can never hide from death, for that would be hiding from your own mortality, which is not possible. You can always not care, but that does not mean it is not there.
Oh, I would do some things... Just know you would find them forrid ^_^
Or maybe I'll think they're kinky.
Maybe you'll laugh so hard you die. Maybe then I'll laugh so hard I don't see it when I get hit by a bus which didn't see me because I was invisible but hears the thud, look at the front, sees nothing and drives on with me on the front invisible.
In Soviet Russia bus hit you!
I thought that was communist Russia...
It works either way, both of them had/have crappy bus drivers.
Hey, that not true! Well... Maybe for Moskva and Tver'

god represents life, amog other thing, and if you can hide from that you can hide from death
I'm going to take this oppportunity to say that upon reading the first post, I did not think of a single thing I would do with the ring until I put some real thought to it.
